Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan Students to Create Remix Detroit’s Next Soundboard
August 6th, 2024
Aug. 6, 2024 [DETROIT] – Bedrock’s Decked Out Detroit and Bluewater Technologies have partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) to develop an immersive eight-week curriculum for Detroit youth to learn the art and technology of musical engineering. The program, launched on June 17, will run through September and conclude with an opportunity for students to showcase their original works on Remix Detroit’s next soundboard.
Presented by Bedrock and powered by Bluewater Technologies, Remix Detroit, an interactive music lab in the heart of downtown Detroit, has featured a rotating soundboard of beats inspired by genres such as Motown and Techno. Free and open to the public, visitors can experiment by rearranging illuminated spheres and turntables to create melodies and lightshows.
“With its place-making activities, Bedrock is committed to showcasing Detroit as a great place to live and a must-see destination. Remix Detroit is a fantastic example of our strategic endeavors," Bedrock Chief Community Growth and Development Officer Nadia Sesay said. "Through our partnership with Bluewater Technologies and the collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, we can educate and empower the next generation of Detroit talent to continue elevating our city, and reinforce Detroit's musical legacy."
On Aug. 15, the program’s students from BGCSM’s Entertainment Industry Club will present their unique four-count beats to Remix Detroit owners. One collaborative creation will be selected and featured at Remix Detroit, Aug. 29 through Sept. 29, 2024.
"We’re proud to see our Entertainment Industry Club youth truly doing what they love to do, using their passion for music and technical expertise to position themselves for the future. It’s through experiences like this that we are equipping our youth with not only practical industry skills, but also developing a strong sense of confidence and belief in their ability to thrive in the professional world,” President and CEO of BGCSM Shawn H. Wilson said.
“We truly appreciate our partnership with Bedrock and Bluewater Technologies in providing this platform for young minds to explore and contribute to the cutting-edge field of musical engineering,” Wilson continued.
“This was my first time participating in the BGCSM Entertainment Industry Club. Our hands-on experience with Remix Detroit in the Sean Anderson Content Studio was not only fun, but also made me realize that I could potentially have a successful career in musical engineering,” BGCSM member Erin K. said.
Remix Detroit is open to the public Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Remix Detroit is located at 1413 Woodward Ave. in Detroit directly across from the Shinola Hotel.
