July 30, 2020 [CLEVELAND] – Bedrock’s historic restoration of the iconic May Company building in downtown Cleveland is near completion and the project is entering the next phase of development as leasing for destination retail and residential units commences.

The May boasts 80,000 square feet of available commercial space, including a range of ground floor retail floor plans and a unique 11,000 square-foot rooftop deck outfitted for food and beverage use with iconic city views.

The spaces will be brokered by Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO Real Estate, a leader in Greater Cleveland’s commercial real estate ecosystem.

“We want to create a shopping experience that is reflective of the one many Clevelanders will remember at the original May Company store. Once again, The May will offer a gathering place for friends and family, with the added amenities of sleek living spaces and rooftop dining,” said Ken Till, Vice President, Development at Bedrock. “CRESCO Real Estate is an expert in the Cleveland commercial real estate market, and as Clevelanders themselves they have a unique understanding for the destination we are creating at The May.”

Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO, the global commercial real estate services firm based in Cleveland, has been part of other iconic Cleveland properties including the Terminal Tower and the Metropolitan at the 9.

“We’re passionate about Cleveland, and excited to be part of The May. Bedrock’s meticulous restoration of the building makes a statement about historic renovation while energizing three distinct areas downtown: Public Square, Ontario Street, and the Gateway District,” said Nathan Kelly, President and Managing Director of Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO. “The area needs retail and amenities that serve visitors, our growing residential base and workers. This project has it all, day and night.”

New ground floor retailers will join The May’s existing tenants, which consist of Pura Vida restaurant, Cuyahoga Community College, and Taco Bell Cantina.

Residential leasing is also now underway for The May, with 307 modern units offering extensive community and in-unit amenities. Equipped with a pet grooming station, state-of-the-art fitness center, a private yoga studio and a large makerspace, The May offers a sophisticated downtown living experience.

Bedrock has partnered with GEIS Residential Management to handle residential leasing efforts, which consists of floorplans from studios to to three bedroom units, with some lofts available. Outfitted with stainless steel appliances, residents can experience sweeping views of the city with large in-unit windows. Select units also offer expansive balconies and all residents can enjoy a remarkable rooftop terrace home to gas grills and a community firepit.

Bedrock purchased The May Company Building in 2017 and quickly commenced a full historic renovation; restoring the original frosted windows, the exterior terra cotta elements and the original May Company clock.
