A block from the Merchants Row shopping area and around the corner from Capitol Park, the building at 35 W. Grand River Ave. was designed by architecture firm Brown, Derrick & Preston and constructed in 1922 for the Kresge Co. (the predecessor of Kmart). From the 1990s to the 2010s, the 10-story, concrete structure served as Clark Lofts. The property was purchased in 2015 by Bedrock, then renovated in 2018 into the 35W apartments, second-level offices and ground-floor retail space.
